(From Marti Wade, firstname.lastname@example.org, and viewpointnigeria.org) With the numerous challenges ranging from economic and insecurity, Christians across all denominations in Plateau State has resorted to prayers they converged at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium Jos, Plateau State to pray for unity, peace and progress of the State and Nation as well as peaceful general elections come 2023. The Plateau Solemn Assembly was organized by Interdenominational Leaders in partnership with the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter.
The President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo in his welcome address hinted that the Solemn Assembly which is first of its kind is an idea of denominational Leaders in the State aimed at strengthening the Christian Faith and also to pray continually for peace, unity and progress of the State and Nation at large.
According to him, the Solemn Assembly is to pray for unity among denominations and Christians in Plateau State, pray for the security challenges confronting the State and Nation as well as peaceful coexistence among the citizens of Plateau State.
The Solemn Assembly according to him is a dedicated time to pray for the political parties to conduct primary elections that will produce credible candidate for the secondary elections into various political offices in the State and the Nation as well as pray for revival among Christians in Plateau State, Nigeria and globally.
“We must also know that God has entrusted us with the responsibility to participate in the process of producing credible leaders with integrity, honesty and who are just and selfless in their service to God, to the State and Nation, Nigeria at heart” he said.
In his sermon, the President of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Rev. Stephen Baba who doubles as the Chairman of the Forum of Christian Denominational Heads in Plateau State, said Plateau is a land blessed by God with huge human and material resources that are second to none in Nigeria. He said, “Plateau has remained the hope of salvation for the North and other parts of Nigeria having pioneered and continuously promoted the work of evangelism and spread of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the unsaved”
According to him, though the state and its people have been under attack by forces of evil who have killed and destroyed property of innocent citizens, he maintained that “the wonderful heritage bestowed on Plateau by God will never be taken away if the people return to God and continue to obey the Lord, love one another, and seek to do His will at all times”
Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau State Governor Lalong said the solemn assembly is coming at the right time when the peace and progress of Nigeria and Plateau State is more than ever before being challenged.
He said “Looking at the level of wickedness and manifestation of evil that is threatening our peaceful coexistence and the safety of lives and properties, the Call to Prayers and Repentance is a collective one that emphasizes soul-searching by everyone.
