If you ever thought of Gideon’s International as just providing Bibles for motels rooms in the West, think again! Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Millions of lost and searching people in many places globally do not havve a copy of the Scriptures, and not Gideons International has established the “Scripture Fund” to make sure they can fulfill their commitment to provide God’s Word where it’s needed most in areas of the world where Gideon’s serve.
In Nepal, for example, where the natural beauty of the snow-capped mountains draws tourists from all over the world, there is a spiritual battle taking place. Hinduism with it’s many gods and goddess’s is the dominant religion. Yet the people are enslaved to a very dark spiritualism that leaves people living in fear of death on a regular basis. “Adesh” (not his real name) said he felt real fear growing up as he worshipped under the dogma of Hinduism. His heart was overburdened by a fear of death. Adesh says, “I was never satisfied by the answers of the Hindu priests.”
One day, Adesh received a copy of the Bible from a Gideon. When his family saw the New Testament, they mocked him. His mother gave him the ultimatum no child wants to hear, “Leave Christianity or leave home!” He says, “I left home and everything behind. Confused, I wanted to know why my people hated the Bible, so I started reading the Scripture. I read verses such as I am the resurrection and the life. ‘Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.’ Then I received Jesus as my Savior and Lord, and I was baptized.”
Today, Adesh is still committed to Jesus and serving in ministry despite the persecution he continues to face for his faith.
