(From Pray4SouthAsia, pray4southasia.com) -The Bodh are the predominant ethnic community of Ladakh in the high Himalayas of north India. This region is described as having an “inhospitable terrain with little vegetation as the area falls in the arid zone. Thus it has very little rainfall. Because of the harsh terrain, the Bodh people, be they herdsmen or farmers, are faced with a difficult life. They truly live by the sweat of their brows.”
Of the 124,000 Bodh who live there, less than 0.2% are Christian. There are some Hindus among them, but most (94%) are devout. practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism, often mixed with indigenous faith practices. Lamas lead rituals, prayers, funerals, healing, and protective ceremonies. The spiritual world is very real to them, and many use prayer flags, amulets, and other objects in their religious practice. Opposition to evangelistic work has always been strong in Ladakh, but recently it has escalated, with Gospel workers being asked to leave.
- Pray and fast for the spiritual ground among the Bodh to soften.
- Pray for the Bodh to experience a deep spiritual hunger that their religion is unable to satisfy.
- Pray for freedom from the spiritual powers that dominate Bodh life.
- Pray that the few Bodh believers will remain strong and that God will use them powerfully.
There are various forms of Buddhism, and we produced a short prayer video on it for The Waiting World. Please click HERE.
