Uganda’s Ebola Outbreak Highlights The Need For Trained Medical Workers

(From Mission Network News, 6/4/26). As Uganda responds to an Ebola outbreak, ministries continue meeting physical and spiritual needs.

As of early June, Uganda had recorded at least 15 Ebola cases and one death in an ongoing outbreak. Brian Dennett with AMG International says, “This is a very serious disease. This seems like a serious strain.”

Officials have closed the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo as a precaution. Otherwise, schools, businesses, and public spaces remain open.

“Reports from our team in Uganda indicate that the situation is very limited. It’s being managed well by the government,” Dennett says.

Even a limited outbreak underscores the need for trained medical workers across Uganda. Dennett says that’s one reason the ministry launched a nursing college in the country years ago.

“Uganda actually has one of the worst nurse-to-patient ratios in the world, and recognizing that a number of years ago, we established a nursing college there,” he explains.
