(From Pray4SouthAsia, Pray4SouthAsia.com) Bangladeshi, Nepali, Indian, and Sri Lankan men gather before dawn at airports in Dhaka, Kathmandu, Kochi, and Colombo. They are flying to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Malaysia. They will work in construction, cleaning, or household work for two to five years. Many will not see their children during that whole time. The money they send home supports entire economies. Nepal depends on this income, and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also depend heavily on it. But workers pay a heavy price. Recruiters charge fees that may take a year to repay. Some employers hold passports and withhold wages. Some workers die overseas and return home in coffins.
- Pray for migrant workers to be protected from exploitation, abuse, and unpaid wages.
- Pray for wives and children waiting at home to be comforted, and for marriages stretched. by distance to be strengthened.
- Pray for quiet fellowships among workers in Gulf states and Southeast Asia to multiply.
- Pray that governments will enforce contracts and prosecute fraudulent recruiters.
Nepal is one of the countries that many migrant workers leave to find work elsewhere. Here is our video from The Waiting World, thewaitingworld.net prayer series. Hopefully it will give you a better picture of their culture. Click HERE
