One People, Four Borders…Hard to Reach

(From Pray4SouthAsia, pray4southasia.com) – High in the Pamir Mountains where four countries nearly meet, live the Wakhi. Fewer than sixty thousand are scattered across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and China. Political borders have divided one people among four countries. In Pakistan, they herd yaks in Gojal in the northwestern mountainous region of the nation, bordering China and Afghanistan. They are predominantly Ismaili Muslims* and followers of the Aga Khan, moving between summer pastures and winter homes. Their language belongs to the Iranian language family, their winters are severe, and many of their villages are far from major cities. Very little Bible translation is available in Wakhi, and few have had meaningful contact with followers of Jesus. Scattered across borders and isolated by mountains, the Wakhi remain one of the least-reached people of the high Pamir.

*Pray that God will reach Wakhi communities across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and China.

*Pray for workers who are willing to travel to remote Wakhi communities and live among them.

*Pray that the Wakhi will receive clear and accurate Scripture in their own language.

*Ismaili Muslims are a denomination of Shia Islam.
