The Verdict Is In On India’s Anti-Conversion Laws

Back on April 22 (2025) we told you about India’s anti-conversion laws that were being applied randomly in different in that nation’s 28 states. The Southeast Asian nation of India is a federal union of 28 states and 8 union territories. The states have their own government while the central government governs the union territories.

In many of these states it is illegal to convert to a religion other than Hinduism. Christians, especially, have been targeted for their conversion to being Christ-followers.

The information for the original post came from a Christian pastor friend of ours in India who contacted us in mid-April asking us to mobilize prayer, because a case was going before the Indian Supreme Court that would make it mandatory that anti-conversions would be the law throughout the land. We learned that another Christian pastor was trying to stop this from happening in the court. Sadly this pastor died before the court proceedings….circumstances unknown.

But the GOOD NEWS IS: The Supreme Court of India, just within the past week, ruled AGAINST making “anti-conversion” the law of the land! Note that anti-conversion laws still exist in the Indian states of: Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh,Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. These 12 states are scattered from northern, thru central, and the southern part of India.

PRAISE GOD that the anti-conversion law is NOT the law of the entire country, but PLEASE PRAY for all those souls in India who come to Christ, and are under constant threat of beatings, imprisonment, torture, and death.
